RCRTA Scholarship Report

The Rutherford County Retired Teacher Scholarship was first established in 1988 with a donation from Ernest Hooper. It was designated to go to a student who is preparing to teach. Over time, additional contributions from Dr. Hooper and other have allowed the fund to become an endowed fund with scholarships awards on an annual basis. The fund currently has an endowment of $34,000. This has allowed us to grant a yearly scholarship to a deserving future teacher.

2020 Recipient

This year’s recipient of the RCRTA scholarship is Brennan Alexander, a second generation MTSU graduate. Brennan is currently a graduate student working on her MED in Curriculum and Instruction. Her goal is to teach following her graduation in December.

Talented in public speaking, Brennan was a Counseling Director for Camp Shiloh, a Summer Camp for children from low income neighborhoods in the South Bronx in New York City from 2012 to 2017. As Counseling Director, she trained and managed counselors and coordinated the college groups coming to visit NYC. Brennan will find this experience beneficial to her as she enter our profession

Contributions to the scholarship fund may be made as memorials  in the name of deceased RCRTA members or in honor of living members by sending your check to the MTSU Foundation, Account Number 093172, Office of Development, MTSU, Murfreesboro, TN 37132.
